Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil.”
James 4:14-16 NIV
Good Afternoon Honey 🍯,
What do you consider evil? Is it murder? Adultery? Lying? Stealing? Yes, those are all undeniably evil actions that cause harm to individuals and society as a whole, but the Scriptures remind us that boasting is also classified as evil in the eyes of the Lord. Boasting often manifests in our everyday conversations when we confidently declare our intentions for the future, such as saying we will accomplish certain tasks tomorrow without acknowledging the sovereignty of God by adding the phrase "Lord willing." This simple acknowledgment serves as a reminder of our human limitations and the unpredictability of life. After all, we are not guaranteed tomorrow, which is precisely why we should treat each day as a precious gift bestowed upon us. Each moment we experience, even during challenging times, should be cherished and appreciated. In those moments of difficulty, we must hold onto the truth that nothing is too hard for our God, who is all-powerful and ever-present. This understanding leads us to another important reason why we should refrain from procrastination and delaying our responsibilities until tomorrow. Procrastination often reveals not only a lack of faith in God's timing but also a sense of entitlement that can subtly creep into our hearts. When we postpone tasks or decisions, we are, in essence, communicating to God that we believe we are entitled to more time than He has allotted us. However, time is indeed a gift that we should treasure and utilize wisely. In essence, everything we have is a gift from God. If we maintain this perspective, it will significantly decrease our chances of falling into the trap of pride and instead shift our focus towards living in a state of gratitude, joy, peace, and faithfulness. Therefore, if we do find ourselves making plans for tomorrow or the upcoming week, let us honor our Heavenly Father by incorporating the phrase "Lord willing" into our plans. This simple act demonstrates our gratitude and our willingness to submit our desires and intentions to His divine will. Father, we thank you for being so gracious to us! Thank you for granting us another day to experience your love and mercy! And in your will, may you please grant us the grace of another day! We are deeply grateful for the life you have given us, a life that allows us to praise your Holy name. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. We humbly ask that you continue to move our hearts, instilling within us a fervent desire to praise and honor you in every area of our lives. May our lives be a reflection of your glory, contributing to the advancement of your kingdom for all of our days. May we remain in awe of your wonderful creation and character, recognizing your hand in every aspect of our existence. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
