“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
God, in His infinite wisdom and love, designed us with a complex yet beautifully orchestrated nervous system that includes both the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems. The parasympathetic system can be understood as the system that promotes rest and relaxation, allowing our bodies to recover, digest, and rejuvenate. On the other hand, the sympathetic nervous system, often referred to as the "fight or flight" response, was originally intended to protect us from immediate physical threats, such as a lion or a bear lurking nearby. This system activates our adrenaline, increases our heart rate, and prepares our body to either confront danger or flee from it. However, in today's world, the activation of the sympathetic nervous system has become more frequent due to the stressors and fears associated with our daily lives. We often find ourselves in situations where we feel threatened or anxious, not by physical predators, but by circumstances beyond our control or by the haunting memories of past traumas. This fear can manifest itself in various forms, creating a mental film that we replay repeatedly, often leading to anxiety and distress. These replayed traumatic events can seep into our current relationships, coloring our interactions and causing us to withdraw or react defensively. The pervasive fear stemming from these experiences diverts us from what can be considered our secondary purpose in life: to create a semblance of heaven on earth. This purpose encompasses the cultivation and maintenance of healthy, meaningful relationships with others. Fear, unfortunately, acts as a formidable barrier to achieving this goal. It is important to recognize that fear stands in stark opposition to faith. Our God is a faithful being, and we are created in His image, which signifies that faith is an intrinsic part of our divine design. Scientific research, including various clinical trials, has demonstrated that belief and faith can have profound effects on our physical bodies and mental states. Placebo studies reveal that when individuals have faith, it can activate healing processes within their bodies, illustrating the powerful connection between our faith and our overall well-being. Our faith serves as a conduit for God's power to manifest within us. When we remain faithful to ourselves and to one another, we allow God's love to transcend from the spiritual realm into the physical world, creating a tangible expression of compassion and support among us. Moreover, our commitment to God fosters our obedience to love, serve, honor, and encourage each other. We were not designed to live in fear because fear is often described as "false evidence appearing real." Instead, we were created to embody faithfulness, reflecting the character of our Heavenly Father. Therefore, we must continually seek reminders of this divine truth. Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that you keep instilling in us the desire to be faithful to You and to those we cherish. Help us to extend our love and patience even towards those who may be challenging to love. Strengthen our faith and fortify our spirits, so we may always remember that we were not intended to dwell in fear. Instead, we were designed to be vessels of love, demonstrating love in all its forms. Thank you for creating us out of love and for your glory. We express our gratitude for your unwavering presence in our lives. We love you, Lord! In Jesus' name, Amen.
